Neymay penalty
Another miss; same type of approach as Zaza in the Euros, except this one was easily saved.

With penalties being missed, left, right and centre in the PL and the CL, what's gone wrong?

How would you take a penalty? If you had to coach your son, what would you advise him?

Get back to the full backs taking pens. In my youth, it was the likes of Tonka, Phil Neal, Mick Mills, Dicksie, Pearce taking some very good penalties.

I even remember the Express (I think) set up a dual between Tonka and Paul Cooper who saved a lot of penalties for Ipswich.

Spot on mate, I was called everything under the sun and even supporters from the other team were calling me a cnut!

The next couple of games when we had a pen my skipper said to me 'No Di Canio's'

also the team I played for lost 13-12 in a peno shoot out once in a cup 1/4 final. It is the worst way to lose a game.

I've watched players in amateur games do the chip pen, the goalie doesn't move, and the ball just plops into the keeper's arms. The next thing the keeper does is call the chipper a complete cunt and laughs at him. Then the other 21 players do the same.

You'd look more than a mug if you missed.

Re: Neymay penalty
The best way to take a penalty is to kick the ball into a section of the goal that the goalkeeper doesn't move to.

Thanks. I am here all week.

Re: Neymay penalty
I was the penatly taker for our Saturday football team, and had a pretty good record.

I did the Di Canio chip peno in the last minute to win a cup game 3-2 against a side a league above us.

Their Cente-half gave me the biggest shoeing I have ever received and that prompted a 22 man brawl.

My mates still talk about the peno, but had I missed I would of looked a right mug.

Re: Neymay penalty
I missed a penalty in a shoot out - or rather it was saved.

Would have clipped the post going in it was that much in the corner.

Incredible save the CUNT!

Some keepers dive far too early, but with pens like Neymar's, I think the stupid run up even puts doubt in the takers head. Just decide where it's going and stick it there.

I dunno, guess if you practice enough with a keeper you kind of develop a sense for when they're moving early.

iirc le tissier did use to always to look at the ball rather than the keeper. unlike someone like yorke.

How do you kick the ball and watch the goalkeeper at the same time? Then change your mind at the last second and stick it the other side.

I've tried doing that with the lad and it is almost impossible.

Exactly geep... looks the best player in the world juggling a ball and the worst when it comes to 11 v 11

Maybe he was like that ball-juggling Woo bloke - the ONLY thing he could do was score penalties.

Maybe they wanted more than a decent penalty taker at the highest level?? Maybe??

I suppose if he was so talented and had such iron nerve, the only surprise is he only made it at decent semi-pro level?

Go on, I'll save you the time... he had some bad injuries.

Manager fella... yup maybe.... he was born in 1942... so maybe about 1948 he might have scuffed one over the old building site

Or, maybe your old teammate was a liar, and he had in fact missed 1 penalty in his entire life?

ED... Yeah you are right... poor lambs.... 40k screaming at you and their technique and bottle goes to pot... maybe they need to get out as Football is obviously not for them

Re: Neymay penalty
I reckon playing at a decent semi pro level and slotting away against a semi average goalkeeper in front of 40 people might be slightly different to slamming one in against a professional goalkeeper when there's 40,000 fans screaming at you.

Just a hunch, like...

Re: Neymay penalty
Our old football manager on Sunday's played at a decent semi pro level when he was younger.. reckoned he never missed a penalty in any form of football... even in pre season training we'd have a pen comp to finish off and he'd always win it... just side foot literally a few inches either side of both posts.. he could never understand how professional footballers could EVER miss a pen....

I only took 5 or 6 in Cup shoot outs after extra time.. never missed.. my technique?? Ray Stewart/Dicksy/Hursty... just run up and smash it as hard as I can... ave it
